What is ethno-sailing?

Traditional sailing is not only about sailing, it is also about people and maritime culture. It is about reliving the sailing traditions of the people living in the country you are visiting. Singing shanties is part of the sailing tradition in Ireland, and in Croatia eating lots of good food and enjoying the local wines is an inextricable part of Croatian sailing tradition...

We combined the prefix ethno and our favorite thing to do, sailing and we got a concept we developed after sailing around in Croatia exploring all it has to offer. We discovered that Croatia is rich in so many different ways. The food is fresh and unique, some dishes popular today were popular in roman times! The history of wine making goes as far back in history as memory allows, and the methods are unique and interesting to see. Croatia has a rich maritime history, and is full of places and people telling the history of sailing, fishing and life in the Adriatic Sea. And all along the coast are amazing natural reserves, historial landmarks, caves, waterfalls and so much more.

When you go Ethno-sailing, you are not just sailing. You experience the richness of the Croatian culture and you meet the people of Croatia. They can offer you their past and their present by serving you wine and food, music and songs, architecture and art. And what better way to experience that than from the deck of a traditional wooden sailing ship. A ship that you as crew are sailing the way they used to do!

On an ethno-sailing journey, you design the sailing trip of your dreams combining all the things you want to learn about Croatia. You choose if you want to explore the countryside by hiking, biking, climbing or diving. Or you can choose art and music festivals, medieval faires and jousting, a culinary journey, wine tasting or even donkey rides to experience another traditional way of travelling in Croatia! You can swim in crystal clear water, hike in shallow lagoons, explore old castle ruins, visit vineyards.
